Part-Time School Cleaner & Key Holder

Nr Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 2JT

Hours: 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 3:30pm – 6:30pm
Contract: Term-time only (39 weeks per year), plus 21 hours of deep cleaning during school holidays.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, trustworthy and proactive Part-Time School Cleaner & Key Holder to join our team, taking responsibility for maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming school environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

This is a key-holder position, so the successful candidate must be dependable and comfortable taking responsibility for securing the premises at the end of each shift.

Alongside general cleaning duties, the role includes routine site safety checks, including Legionella testing, fire alarm testing and emergency lighting checks. Full procedures and appropriate training will be provided where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cleaning classrooms, toilets, reception areas, offices and other designated areas to a consistently high standard.

  • Ensuring the school is clean, hygienic and ready for use.

  • Acting as a key holder, following the school's opening, closing and security procedures.

  • Ensuring windows and doors are secured and the premises are left safe at the end of each shift.

  • Carrying out routine Legionella (water hygiene) testing in line with site procedures and accurately recording results.

  • Completing scheduled fire alarm tests and emergency lighting checks in accordance with the school's procedures.

  • Reporting faults, maintenance issues, unusual test results or health and safety concerns promptly.

  • Replenishing cleaning materials and reporting stock shortages.

  • Following COSHH requirements and all relevant health and safety procedures.

  • Carrying out an additional 21 hours of deep cleaning during school holidays, arranged in advance.

Working Hours

  • Term time: 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 3:30pm – 6:30pm, for 39 weeks per year.

  • School holidays: An additional 21 hours in total for deep cleaning during the school holiday periods.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be:

  • Reliable, punctual and trustworthy, with a strong sense of responsibility.

  • Experienced in commercial cleaning, ideally within a school or similar environment.

  • Comfortable working independently and managing their workload.

  • Organised, with good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.

  • Confident following security procedures and taking responsibility as a key holder.

  • Willing to undertake the necessary training for site safety checks.

  • Professional and committed to maintaining a safe, clean environment for children and staff.

Previous experience as a key holder and carrying out Legionella testing, fire alarm testing or emergency lighting checks would be an advantage.
